About Denver

Denver, Colorado: Host City of ISLB 2024 Congress

Welcome to Denver, a vibrant city boasting 300 days of sunshine, a rich cultural scene, diverse neighborhoods, and breathtaking natural beauty – making it the ultimate playground for adventurers worldwide. Nestled at the base of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Denver offers stunning architecture, award-winning dining, and unparalleled views, accessible year-round.

Though Denver is not nestled within the mountains themselves, it sits amidst the high rolling plains, just 12 miles east of the foothills, a series of gentle mountains rising to 11,000 feet. Beyond lies the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, with formidable snow-capped peaks reaching 14,000 feet. While the city may not be mountain-bound, the majestic peaks still dominate its skyline. From Denver, one can behold a picturesque mountain panorama stretching 140 miles, with 200 visible named peaks, including 32 soaring above 13,000 feet.

Colorado’s mountainous terrain dwarfs that of Switzerland, encompassing six times its size, boasting 9,600 miles of fishing streams, 2,850 lakes, and over 1,000 peaks exceeding two miles high. Notably, the road

to the summit of Mount Blue Sky, standing at 14,260 feet, claims the title of the highest paved road in North America, meticulously maintained and operated by the Denver City Parks Department.

In 1893, Katharine Lee Bates found inspiration atop nearby Pikes Peak, where she penned the words to “America the Beautiful.”

Central City, just 45 minutes west of Denver, earned the moniker “Richest Square Mile on Earth” for its half-billion dollars’ worth of gold mined from its soil.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Colorado Trail beckons, stretching 500 miles from Durango to Denver. This epic hiking trail traverses eight mountain ranges, seven national forests, six wilderness areas, and five river systems, offering a glimpse into the rugged beauty that defines the Colorado landscape.
